Ethiopia plans to promote its heritage globally through international media outlets, says the Ethiopian Tourism Organization (ETO). The country is home to a vast variety of natural, historical and cultural heritage.
Despite Ethiopia’s huge potential for tourism, including nine world heritages inscribed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), the number of visitors and tourism revenue earned is low, Jemal Kadir, the Deputy Director-General of the ETO said while speaking to the Ethiopian News Agency in Addis Ababa.
The Horn of Africa country has allocated 5.5 million Birr (about 242,000 US dollars) to promote the country’s tourism potential globally through the media outlets, he added.
The move to promote Ethiopia’s heritage globally through the mainstream media is part of the country’s initiatives to increase the tourist inflow and tourism revenue. The campaign will begin in the last quarter of the current Ethiopian fiscal year.
