The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) lays the foundation for the first aviacargo village in the country, aiming to transform Nigeria into an export-driven economy and a hub for agro-export in Africa. The cargo village, proposed by the aviacargo road map committee, will streamline the agro-export process and ensure seamless operations from the farm to the airplane for international shipment.
FAAN’s Managing Director, Mr. Kabir Yusuf Mohammed, stated that building the cargo village was inspired by the challenges identified during the first Aviation and Cargo conference in 2021. Establishing the aviacargo village is a key step in addressing agro-export rejections and increasing Nigeria’s exports and earnings.
The cargo village will be a one-stop facility with cargo processing, packaging, certification, laboratory services, and data gathering for product traceability. The aim is for cargo planes to depart from Nigerian airports fully loaded with goods meeting destination standards and acceptance.
Coordinator of the aviacargo roadmap committee, Mr. Ikechi Uko, expressed gratitude to FAAN for taking this significant step, envisioning Nigeria’s journey to become Africa’s top aviation cargo hub.
The cargo village covers an area of 27,000 square meters, providing ample space to accommodate all the export processes at the airport.
