Wines of South Africa Grand Tasting 2018, Lagos, Nigeria


Wines of South Africa (WOSA), a group of South African wine manufacturing heavyweight, once again thrilled wine connoisseurs, sellers, buyers and distributors as it held its annual grand wine tasting tour in Lagos, the commercial hub of Nigeria, and West and Central Africa.

Took place at the prestigious Four Points by Sheraton, Victoria Island, Lagos, the parley experienced exhibition of numerous wine brands that demonstrated the depth and variety of the South African Wine industry. The winemakers and their teams also displayed engrossing bottle and packaging designs as well as assorted products that stimulated the taste buds of guests.

Siobhan Thompson, Chief Executive Officer, Wines of South Africa in her welcome address stated that the event was to create a convivial ambience for Nigerians to have a taste of South African wines and interact with their makers and distributors. She noted that the grand tasting tour was returning to Lagos because it has become a major hub for wine consumers.

She also used the opportunity to invite guests to CapeWine 2018, reputed as the biggest gathering of wine enthusiasts on the globe, scheduled to hold between 12th — 14th September in Cape Town, South Africa. The event which has DHL as the major sponsor usually attracts the best and the brightest collection of wine lovers, makers, and media from the four corners of the planet.

Marketing Manager of WOSA, Matome Mbatha, in his contributory speech stated that unlike last year, WOSA has brought a whole new set of wine makers and distributors to the event. He noted that WOSA’s aim is to form a strong partnership with the Nigerian wine consumers with a view to increasing its market share in the continent’s largest economy and most populous nation.

The event organised by Jon Williams Events & Communications had light music wafted from the PA System while guests enjoyed assorted canapes and engaged in light conversation and networking.

Wines of South Africa (WOSA) is a fully inclusive body, representing all South African producers of wine who export their products. WOSA, which was established in its current form in 1999, has over 500 producers on its database, comprising all the major South African wine exporters.

It is constituted as a not-for-profit company and is totally independent of any producer or wholesaling company. It is also independent of any government department, although it is recognised by government as an export council.
